THE 2021 Wert Award

The Lucille M. Wert Student Scholarship is awarded annually and is designed to help persons with an interest in the fields of chemistry and information to pursue graduate study in library, information, or computer science. The CINF Awards Committee reviewed the applications during the Spring ACS Meeting, and is very pleased to announce that the 2021 recipient is Richard Hoang


Richard Hoang is a graduate student from the University of Southern California’s Master of Management in Library and Information Science (MMLIS) program in the Marshall School of Business. He received his Joint B.Sc. Honors degree from Simon Fraser University in Chemistry and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (MBB). He aspires to be a STEM librarian to promote STEM literacy, enhance research skills, collaborate in the research culture to catalyze knowledge translation, and promote knowledge resources. As a teaching assistant, he has shared various resources to first-year chemistry students such as chemical databases and Open Access chemistry textbooks to provide an equitable and engaging education. Outside of his professional life, Richard volunteers in local events to bring STEM awareness and to trigger curiosity for members of the community.
